Nominations
How many people can one person nominate?
- A nominator can nominate up to five people at a time but have unlimited ability to nominate.
- Yes; entrepreneurs are welcome to nominate themselves or their own business
- Nominees will receive their nomination package by e-mail within of 48 hours of being nominated
Can an entrepreneur nominate themselves?
When will nominees receive their confirmation e-mail and letter of congratulations?
Benefits
What are the benefits of being nominated?
- Opportunity to be listed in the Women of Influence directory online to align yourself with like minded professionals.
- www.theawards.ca will also hold a listing of nominees to honour and recognize those nominated. These postings will include a link to the nominees website.
- If a nominee would like their information withheld from the directory they can e-mail info@womenofinfluenceinc.ca to have it removed.
- Networking tool and marketing opportunity with like minded women in business.
Eligibility
Why is profitability a criterion?
- In order to sustain the credibility of the awards Women of Influence ensures that we are honour women entrepreneurs who have a fully well rounded business
- Women of Influence recognizes that the economy has provided an additional challenge in the past two years; however, as all businesses have been exposed to the same climate there are no exceptions to this point of eligibility
- The applicant must prove three consecutive years of profitability
What if I have been in business for less than 3 years?
- Women of Influence requires that the third year end for the business occur before May 31, 2012.
Why are franchises not eligible?
- While franchisees may use innovative business strategies to grow their operations, they are not founders of the original business concept and structure.
Why are non-profit organizations not eligible?
- This Awards program has chosen to honour women entrepreneurs. These are women who enter into a commercial venture, who in many cases use their own capital to assume the risk and responsibility of operating a for-profit business
Why are Associations not eligible?
- Associations are formed to represent a group of like-minded individuals or business interests and are not established to develop a commercial venture.
What defines primary income?
- More than 50% of her income must come from their entrepreneurial endeavours
Explain the criteria of “responsibility for day-to-day management”:
- Own or control the majority of voting shares
- Hold the senior executive title or be the chief decision maker
- Be responsible for day-to-day management and the bottom line of the company
What if the business is a partnership with a man?
- The woman entrepreneur must:
- Be the founder of the business;
- Hold the senior executive title or be the chief decision maker;
- Be responsible for the day-to-day management and the bottom line of the company;
- If the partnership were to break up, the woman entrepreneur would retain control of the company.
- Proof of meeting these criteria can be indicated in the application within the business plan section
- If there are two or more people listed as owners of the business, please write their names on the nomination form as follows:

- All partners’ signatures are required on the application form.
